Although mainstream devices do not include Braille displays, some include the ability to communicate with Braille displays. This allows a Braille user to utilize their separate Braille device as a keyboard and/or display for their computer or mobile device. No additional software is required to communicate with the Braille display.

To use a Braille display with Android:

To use a Braille display, you must first install Brailleback from the Google Play store. Then, select Settings> Accessibility> BrailleBack, and turn on BrailleBack.

Select Settings> Connections> Bluetooth. Select the Braille display from the list of available devices. If it does not appear, make sure it is turned on and "visible" for pairing.

To use a Braille display with iOS:

Select Settings> General> Accessibility> VoiceOver> Braille. From the controls that appear, find and pair the Bluetooth enabled Braille display with the device,

To use a Bluetooth Braille display with macOS:

Open System Preferences and select Accessibility. From the list on the left, select VoiceOver. Click "Open VoiceOver Utility..."

In the VoiceOver Utility, select Braille from the list on the left. Select the Displays tab from the top of the Window. If your display does not appear, click the "+" at the bottom of the list, and select the Braille device from the list.

To use Braille displays with Windows 10 Creators Edition or later:

The Creators Edition of Windows 10 supports Braille devices through the addition of third-party software.

Select Settings> Ease of Access> Narrator. Select Download Braille to download and install the required software. Once installed, the "Download Braille button is replaced by "Enable Braille."

Click the control to add the Braille device by manufacturer and connection. Once the device is selected, new controls appear to allow setting the type of Braille and other parameters.
