Product Description:

MathType is a mathematics editing program that can be used by individuals who are blind or have low vision. It is compatible with most screen reading programs and a variety of assistive technology products used to access a computer. Individuals who are unfamiliar with braille can author or convert extremely complex scientific documents for embossing.

Main Features:

  • Automatic spacing that conforms to international mathematics typesetting conventions. Everything is spaced and sized in accordance with accepted typesetting standards.
  • Directly integrates with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Apple applications (Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iBooks Author).
  • Equation Editor compatibility. Edit all formulas created with Microsoft Equation 3.0, as well as Microsoft's OMML equation editor that was introduced with Word 2007.
  • MathType adds a tab into Word's ribbon with extra functionality.
  • Insert inline and display equations from the tab on the ribbon in Word. Double-click to edit.
  • Convert and format all equations of a Word document easily, with a single command.
  • Autonumbering of formulas.
  • Insert references to numbered equations in a text. Double-clicking one of these references quickly takes users to that place in the document.
  • Type LaTeX directly into a Word document.
  • MathType's use of object linking and embedding (OLE) makes it possible to insert formulas into many other applications.
  • MathType works with over 800 software applications, web applications, and websites.
  • Export and import MathML, making it easy to integrate into many publishing workflows using XML.
  • LaTeX support.
  • Save or export equations as images for applications that support only images.
  • Formula templates and symbols are available in a well-organized toolbar.
  • Shortcuts speed the insertion of symbols and templates using only the keyboard.
  • Following the best good practices in math typesetting, MathType recognizes a defined set of functions, the names of which are non-italicized by default.
  • If using a function, not in MathType's pre-defined list, users can customize the list, adding new functions to it and removing others if they wish.
  • Users can:
    • Drag frequently-used formulas to the toolbar to save them so they can reuse them quickly.
    • Customize the shortcuts to align with how they use MathType.
    • Customize the styling of the formulas: fonts, size, spacing.
    • Customize the output translators to be compatible with other software and web applications.
    • Save their customizations into preference files.
    • Easily switch from one set of customizations (preference files) to another.
    • Choose font, color, and size.
    • Choose among a predefined list of styles, making it easy to format expressions to align with accepted standards.
    • Multiple preference files: users can choose one look for one type of document and a different look for another document.
  • Extensive control over the appearance and alignment of matrices and tables.
  • Easy to install and uninstall.
  • Detects whether Microsoft Office is installed and if it is, automatically adds a tab to the ribbon in Word and PowerPoint.
  • Network admins can install silently across their Windows network.
  • MathType for Windows is available in five languages: English, Chinese, French, German, and Japanese.
  • Use any standard keyboard input method to input non-latin based characters.
  • Integrates with Duxbury Braille Translator to create a math document in Microsoft Word and translate the document's text and math into braille.
  • Install MathPlayer together with the NVDA screen reader and the MathType formulas inside Microsoft Word and PowerPoint will be accessible by those with visual impairment or certain learning disabilities.
  • MathPlayer associates a textual representation to a formula and allows navigating through a MathType formula.
  • Publish to MathPage in Word for Windows provides a suitable method for producing accessible materials and websites.
  • Users can enter Custom Speech Text for expressions they'd like to be read a certain way (Windows only).
  • LaTex Support:
    • Reuse existing formulas from the [La]TeX documents.
    • To write purely LaTeX documents, use MathType as a WYSIWYG LaTeX front-end.
    • Choose between TeX, AMS TeX, LaTeX, and AMS LaTeX.
    • Within MathType, users can use a combination of point & click, keyboard shortcuts, and LaTeX formula entry.
    • Write LaTeX directly in Word and convert it to formulas.
