First Words and Verbs is a research-based program for students with disabilities that provides highly structured teaching for learning 100 nouns and 50 verbs in developmental order. 

Main Features: 

  • Uses Laureate’s Optimized Intervention Technology to identify the appropriate starting level for students.
  • Features 200 colorful photos, 200 illustrations, and animated reinforcements.
  • Includes three programs: First Words, First Words II, and First Verbs.
  • The programs begin by identifying five words the student doesn’t know.
  • The student then chooses between two pictures to identify the first word.
  • As responses are monitored for each word, the teaching is automatically adjusted to one of five levels.
  • Engaging animated characters reinforce correct answers and introduce expanded language.
