iAssist Communicator

Product Type:
Device modifier
Manufacturer Name:
This product has been discontinued.

Product Description:

The iAssist Communicator is designed for teens and adults with autism and other developmental and communication challenges. The app is specifically focused on the more cognitively challenged. With the unique needs of these individuals in mind, the app incorporates photos rather than more abstract drawings, larger images, and functional language.

Main Features:

  • Images: The app comes pre-loaded with 250 images and associated text. Additional images can be created using the in-app library. New images can either utilize the text to speech plug-in or can be recorded.
  • Files: Files are a set of images that together form a communication pattern, for instance, files may indicate the users wants or needs; or files can be used to identify the tasks in a schedule, for example, a dental hygiene schedule might begin with flossing the teeth and would probably include putting toothpaste on the toothbrush. The app comes pre-loaded with 22 files. Files can be edited and new files created to address the specific needs of the user.
  • Templates: Templates are composed of a set of files that share a context or location. For example, the app comes preloaded with a home and community template and a school and work template. The files in the home and community are associated with activities that would occur either at home, for example ‘doing my chores’ or in the community, for example, a choice of outdoor activities like going to the park or riding a bike. The files in the work and school template include files associated with classroom activities or work schedules. Templates can be edited and new templates can be created to address the specific needs of the user.
