Visual accommodations

Early computers provided just one size and color of text, in a rigid grid on the screen.  Today's devices can show the text of different sizes in a single line, and with many different colors.  The screens can be very bright, for use in daylight or dimmer for use at night.  There are a few general types of accommodation built into many modern devices.  These include:

• The brightness of the screen (from viewing at night to viewing in daylight), as well as the contrast between the darkest dark and the brightest bright on the screen, can be adjusted.
• The size of the text on the screen and the size of the entire display can be adjusted to make small features more visible.
• The amount of information displayed at once can be limited to provide a simpler, less cluttered display that is easier for the user to navigate.
