Visual Alerts (Generic)

This is not a page for a specific "Visual Alerts". It is a placeholder for the many Visual Alerts that are out on the market. Because there are so many of them, and they are easy to find by doing an internet search, we do not attempt to include them in our database. See the More Information section for suggested search terms to use.

Product Description:

Most devices, by default, make a sound to notify the user that some action is required or that something has happened that may be of interest (e.g. new mail). In some settings (e.g. theaters) or for some people with limited hearing, these sounds are ineffective or undesirable. As an alternative, many devices offer a visual alert in place of, or in addition to, the audible alert.

To activate visual alerts in Android:

Select Settings> Accessibility> Hearing> Flash Notification.  This will flash the camera light when an audible notification or alarm is produced.

To activate visual alerts in iOS:

Select Settings> General> Accessibility> LED Flash for Alerts.

To activate visual alerts in Linux:

Select System Settings> Universal Access.  Select the "Hearing" tab, and turn Visual Alerts ON.  The user may then choose between flashing the window title or flashing the entire screen.

To activate visual alerts in macOS:

Select System Preferences> Accessibility.  Select Audio from the list on the left of the Accessibility window, then check the box for "Flash the screen when an alert sound occurs."

To activate visual alerts in Windows 10:

Select Settings> Ease of Access> Other options.  Under "Visual notification for sound," select the type of visual notification preferred.
