People with disabilities may require special accommodations to be safe and secure in their homes. This can be because of limited mobility, limited ability to manipulate the environment, or limited planning skills.
- A person with hearing or vision loss may not be able to know when an alert (smoke detector, CO detector, etc.) occurs. Different types of alerts may be needed.
- Some areas are prone to extreme weather, and it may be necessary to have alerts that severe weather is in the vicinity.
- Some types of accommodation allow a person with a disability to prepare for possible emergencies.
- Some types of technology are focused on being safe within the home.
