Braille Display

All devices in this category can display Braille from a device.  Some, however, include Braille keyboards, so that information can also be entered into the device as well.

To enhance portability and to limit costs (Braille cells are expensive), many Braille displays will show less than a full line of the display at a time.  In these compact displays, keys are provided to show the next part of a line of text.

  • Devices that are designed to be carried with the user as replacements for notepads, the displays are typically less than 40 cells wide.
  • A common size for such displays are 40 cells wide.  These will show half of a line of text on a standard visual display at a time and can be flipped between the left and right side of the line.
  • Larger displays typically are 80 cells wide (though some have fewer), to show a full line of text at once.
