Macro triggers

Macros are complex sets of instructions that can be activated by simple or automated actions.  The types of triggers available depend on the program used to create the macros.  Macro triggers include:

  • Running on specified dates or times, such as each Wednesday morning at 7:00 AM.
  • Things happening in the device interaction are called "events."  Events might include the mouse pointer moving over a spot on the screen or the arrival of a message.  Any internal event can be set up to trigger a macro, automating common actions.
  • Macros can be triggered by typing a specific keyboard command.  These must be selected so that the user is unlikely to trigger the macro accidentally, but to be easy to remember as well.
  • Some programs place a list of available macros on the screen, so that the user can simply click a button to trigger the macro.
