Telephone Ring Enhancement (Sight or Sound)
If a person cannot hear the normal ringing of the phone, either because of limited hearing or a noisy environment, there are a number of possible accommodations.
- The sound of the ring can be made very loud, generally with a second ringer.
- A light can be flashed to provide a visual ring, for those who cannot hear the ringer, or when loud sounds are not acceptable
- Vibration can be used in place of, or in addition to, either sound or light. Most cell phones offer this, but it can also be added to other phones.
- Sometimes a person can hear or see the ringer when it is nearby, but they move out of range. A remote ringer can be carried along, so that they are notified even when the phone is across the room.
